"Picasso, stubbornly Mediterranean", the exhibition to see in Paris this summer

16/04/2019
This summer, the Picasso-Paris National Museum is interested in the links that the artist had with the Mediterranean. An exciting exhibition that will give a beautiful series of multidisciplinary works, some of which will be exhibited for the first time in Paris.

Picasso, stubbornly Mediterranean, is the name of the summer exhibition of the National Picasso Museum in Paris, which will, as always, attract the crowds at number 5 rue de Thorigny, eager to rediscover a new chapter in the life of the artist. It must be said that Picasso is an inexhaustible source of research and studies, as his work is rich. The Parisian museum dedicated to him since 1985 is back this summer with the inspiring links that the Spanish artist had with the Mediterranean region. First of all, since he grew up in the Spanish ports before setting up his workshops on the Côte d'Azur where he lived his last years, from Antibes Juan les Pins to Vallauris via Cannes (where he settled in Villa California) and Mougin. Artistic links afterwards, giving rise to a multitude of works inspired by the Mediterranean landscape, some of them exhibited in Paris for the very first time. With regard to archives, photographs and personal documents, the exhibition, both poetic and immersive, draws the contours of the artist's daily life on this land of sunshine that has never ceased to influence his work. "His immense and multiple work escapes all limitation, absorbs all the currents but remains obstinately Mediterranean despite his convulsions, by the birth and the temperament of his author, his places of residence, his mythical obsessions and his imperious syntax. "Tells Jean Leymarie in the catalogue “Picasso and the Mediterranean” published in 1983. Tastefully scenographed, the exhibition promises a picturesque journey  in the heart of the creative genius of the artist, who is still passionate.
