Dali, a history of painting

Dali, a history of painting

16/04/2019
To mark the 30th anniversary of Dalí’s death, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, is dedicating an incredible exhibition to the Spanish painter, commissioned by Montse Aguer, director of the Dalí museums. The exhibition will span over 43,000 square feet, with Dalí’s most famous paintings, as well as sketches and photographs dating from 1910, up until 1983, shedding light on his influences and the crucial stages in his career. It is not so much a retrospective, as a celebration of the artist’s impact upon the artistic landscape of the twentieth century. Heavily influenced by the impressionist movement, as well as cubism, Dalí joined the ranks of André Breton and the surrealists in the early twentieth century. Later, his muse and partner Gala gave him a taste for classical culture, the Renaissance artists (and the atomic bomb) being a catalyst for a new era in his creativity: Nuclear mysticism. Then, in the 1970s, the artist met Andy Warhol, and the pair developed an expectedly bizarre friendship. The defining eras in Dalí’s life will be revived in this exhibition, opening on July 6, 2019
